» Age Requirements:

All riders need to be over 21 in order to rent a motorcycle. Motorcycles over 650cc are restricted to riders over 25 years old. If you are unsure if you qualify – please ask us.

Minimum age and experience restrictions apply. These vary depending on the bike model and pickup location but for most bikes you need to be 25 or over to ride. Some Harley Davidson bikes require you to be 28 or older. From some depots and for some bikes 21 is the minimum age. You will need a full bike license, a passport and credit card when you collect the bike. If you are unsure if you meet the conditions please just ask. BikeRoundNZ nor the depot will be held liable for your failure to meet the stated requirements.

» Insurance:

Accident, fire, theft, third party property damage & third party personal insurance is included with an excess (deductible) equal to the amount of the security bond listed on the pricing page.

Breach of rental contract terms voids ALL insurance and renter is liable for ALL damage. Insurance DOES NOT cover 1) rider for bodily injury or damage/loss of personal belongings. Supplementary travel insurance is highly recommended. 2) loss of rental caused by extensive damage to the motorcycle rendering it unavailable for hire.

A security bond equal to the insurance excess is to be secured with a credit card slip and is fully refundable when the motorcycle is returned undamaged. Any damage to the motorcycle up to the insurance excess will be deducted from the security bond.

» Deposit and balance payments:

A 15% non refundable deposit is required to reserve your motorcycle. An additional security deposit which is refunded when the bike is returned safely, must be paid using a credit card [the security bond]. The balance is payable 30 days in advance of the start of your tour or rental.

Final balance payments for Harley Davidson rentals using a credit card are subject to a 3% surcharge. Final payments can be made using direct bank transfer if preferred, incurring no surcharges.

» Collection / Drop-Off Times:

Collection and drop off times are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. Weekend collection and drop offs are by prior appointment only. This isn’t always possible but we will do our best to fit in with your plans. A late fee equivalent to the daily rental rate for the rental motorcycle, plus NZ$ 150 per day will be levied if the motorcycle is not returned on the specified date and time; unless prior arrangements have been made.

» Cancellations and refunds:

In the event of a cancellation the following fees apply:

If you cancel 61 days or more before the start date – the 15% deposit is forfeited

If you cancel between 60 and 30 days before the start date – 35% of the total booking amount is forfeited.

If you cancel fewer than 30 days before the start date – 100% of the total booking amount is forfeited.

There are no refunds if a motorcycle is returned before the end of the hire period or if you curtail your tour. Should you wish to be covered for this eventuality, appropriate travel and/or personal insurance is recommended.

» Surface restrictions:

Harley Davidson motorcycles may only be ridden on paved or tarmac roads. You are not permitted to ride on metal, shingle or gravel roads/tracks or off-road. Insurance cover is void where the motorcycle is ridden on metal, shingle or gravel roads/tracks or off-road.

New Zealand law prohibits the use of rental vehicles on the following roads: Tasman Valley Road (Mt Cook), Nevis Canyon Road (Otago), Skippers Canyon (Queenstown), Macetown Road (Queenstown), Ninety Mile Beach (Northland) and any unformed road (including any beach).

There are specific bikes available for gravel road use and so it may be possible to help but you must tell us you wish to ride on gravel roads so we can explain options and conditions. Please contact us for details.

» Accidents and breakdowns:

In the event of mechanical breakdown or accident, report this to the emergency number issued to you by the depot. Do not undertake repairs without the prior agreement of the depot. In the event of an accident or theft, always report it to the police immediately, obtain a police report number and notify the depot. The depot will make every effort to provide repair facilities or a replacement motorcycle, but is not obliged to do so.

Punctures and tyre damage are the sole responibility of the hirer. You are also responsible for ensuring that the correct fuel is used in your rental motorcycle, any costs involved with repairs or damage done due to contamination of the fuel tank will be the responsibility of the hirer. Check before you squeeze that trigger!

» Cleaning:

If you clean the bike thoroughly before returning it there will be no charge. However, if it is dirty when returned then there is a strictly enforced NZ$ 200 cleaning fee that is deducted from the security bond before it is refunded. This policy helps to ensure the bikes are kept in good condition ready for your rental. Thank you for your help with this.

» Fuel:

Bikes are normally provided with a full tank of fuel. Please ensure it is full when returned at the end of your trip. A $50 charge applies to motorcycles returned without a full tank of fuel.

» One way rentals:

You can drop off your motorcycle at either Auckland or Christchurch. There are no charges if your rental is over 14 days in duration. Please ask for costs if your planned trip is shorter than 14 days and would like to ride one-way.

» Helmets:

It is a condition that you wear an approved crash helmet at all times when riding your motorcycle. BikeRoundNZ strongly encourages you to take your own helmet and cannot accept liability for the condition of any crash helmet provided by third parties.

» Mechanical difficulties, accident and theft

In the event of mechanical breakdown or accident, report this to the emergency number issued to you by the depot. Do not undertake repairs without the prior agreement of the depot. In the event of an accident or theft, always report it to the police immediately, obtain a police report number and notify the depot. The depot will make every effort to provide repair facilities or a replacement motorcycle, but is not obliged to do so.

Where a motorcycle has been crashed and is not able to be ridden any further, BikeRoundNZ, its Agents, Assigns and Contractors are under no obligation to replace or supply another motorcycle for the completion of the journey and no compensation can be claimed by the hirer for the unused portion of the hire period.

Unfortunately we can’t control the weather or other natural occurrences during your trip. No doubt we’d have a lot more bookings if we could! We will always do our best to help out and try to urgently rearrange things where they affect your tour but please understand we cannot accept responsibility for any adjustment in cost resulting from changes to your tour as a consequence of natural occurrences, adverse weather conditions, natural disasters, road closures and other issues beyond our control.
